Impact
At least one user experienced inconsistencies in the registration of commit authors. The issue started on UTC-5 25-08-29 17:29 and was reactively discovered 1.9 days (TTD) later by a client who reported through our help desk that the platform was showing commit authors in September, even though those authors had not made commits during that month. All groups with active Advanced subscriptions during August and September, along with their respective organizations, were affected. The problem was resolved in 17.2 hours (TTF), resulting in a total window of exposure of 2.6 days (WOE) [1].
Cause
During the transition to a new version of the system used to run daily jobs, the process that records commit authors stopped working for three days at the end of August. When it was fixed on September 1, the system mistakenly registered the missing authors from August as if they had been committed in September [2].
Solution
The job configuration was updated to use the correct version of the system, which resolved the compatibility problem and allowed the daily registration process to work properly again [3].
Conclusion
We are reviewing ways to make these jobs more robust, including adding alerts that notify us when the number of authors recorded for a given day is lower than expected, so similar issues can be detected sooner. DATA_QUALITY < MISSING_ALERT
